Tips for Managing Oral Mucositis
Good oral hygiene is essential!
- To keep your teeth and gums clean, use an ultra-soft toothbrush and clean the teeth in between regularly
- Brush your teeth gently with toothpaste or gel that has a mild/no flavor and is SLS free
- Suggest many alternatives currently available to prevent oral issues and provide relief and comfort when they do arise.
- Replace your toothbrush often
- Use lubricating mouth rinse to help keep your mouth moist
- If you wear dentures, clean them daily
- Watch what you eat and drink
- Eat bland, soft foods
- Avoid foods that are acidic, spicy, coarse, extremely hot, or extremely cold
- Increase the amount of liquids you drink with meals to stay hydrated
- Avoid constant sipping
- Drink with a straw to help avoid any sores on your tongue
- Do not consume alcohol
- Do not use tobacco products
